Winner of the Donegal People of the year Award 2000

Sarah Mc Caffery: Creeslough daughter of Jim  Mc Caffery and Gracie Mc Ginley in a family of four, Mary died young, Sarah became a Teacher, Brian became a Doctor, Micheal went on to become the Postman after his father, who also owned the Creeslough Hall.

Sarah born in Creeslough was educated at Drumnarraw National School, Loreto convent Letterkenny and UCD where she took her teaching degree.

She taught English plus other subjects (music,drama and Irish culture & history) at Loreto Convent Letterkenny until her early retirement in 1986.

She devoted hugh energy  to the promotion of the appreciation of culture and Irish history, both within her classes and amongst those children fortunate enough to associate with her in the various clubs in Creeslough area.

She was also involved in The Legion of Mary, Pioneer Association, Glor na Gael, Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, Creeslough Drama Group and Feis, The Rosary Group and St. Michaels GAA Creeslough.

The ten people nominated for the Donegal People of the Year Award in 2000 were Sarah McCaffrey Creeslough Teacher, Damien Faulkner Moville Racing Driver, Eileen Oglesby Kincasslagh fishing Company, Frank Gallagher Ardra Bakery Owner, Plunkett O’Ferraigh Letterkenny, Theatre Professor, Maire O’Donnell Mountcharles Golfer, Jim Nallen Letterkenny Social Worker, Cathal O’Shearcaigh Gortahork  Poet, Bridie Lynch St. Johnston Athlete and Paddy Harte. TD. Got the Hall of Fame.
